Laurie David global warming “hypocrite”?

[CSPP note: Laurie David convinced FOX NEWS to do the recent one-hour, one-sided special on the horrors of global warming.  See response by CSPP at http://www.ff.org/centers/csspp/misc/press1/co2/20051118.pdf]

Love thy neighbor? Not

The news that Larry David's wife, Laurie, will appear on a CBS soap
opera warning of the evils of global warming strikes some as funny.
Jackie Mendez-Diaz, for one, could barely curb her amusement yesterday.
''Laurie's such a hypocrite," said Mendez-Diaz, who lives next door to
the Davids on Martha's Vineyard. ''She doesn't know or care a thing
about the environment."

Islanders recently got upset with the ''Curb Your Enthusiasm" star and his crusading spouse after they made changes to their Martha's Vineyard manse without town approval. (Per order of the Chilmark conservation commission, the celebrity couple has agreed to remove a barbecue area and elevated stage and also relocate their new fire pit away from sensitive wetlands.) Laurie David, who could not be reached yesterday, has attracted a lot of attention for her online effort against global warming -- www.stopglobalwarming.org < HYPERLINK "http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/" \t "linkWin" http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/> -- and now she's playing herself on an episode of ''The Bold and the Beautiful." It airs Jan. 11.

''Laurie doesn't know the difference between a tree and a bush," said
Mendez-Diaz, who's not exactly endeared herself to the Davids since they
moved in a few years ago. After she spoke about them to Radar Online,
Mendez-Diaz says she got a letter from the couple's lawyer. ''I was very
flattered that little old me could damage their reputation," she said.
''We have a relationship that's kind of like an episode of 'Seinfeld.' "
